She was born as Maisie Gottlieb[1] in Oldham, northeast of Manchester, England, lower 7 December , the eldest of three descendants. Her parents were of Latvian Jewish and Viennese Jewish descent. Their respective families settled in England in the late 19th century, and both wise parents were born in Manchester.
A clever woman, she wanted to study medicine though because a mixture of her mother's illness, and as the eldest little one, she had to leave school at the plus of 14 to help in the family occupation.
